Starting Lineup

Valencia looks to control matches through high pressing and verticality in a 4-3-3. This formation is built to win the ball back high up the pitch and hit opponents quickly in transition. The lineup aims to keep the ball in advanced areas to keep the opposition pinned back.

Otxotorena sits between the lines in goal to organize the back unit. The defense functions as a flat back four where Voro acts as a left back to provide width. Quique plays as a right back to help the midfield during buildup. Arias and Giner form the central pairing, with Arias acting as a ball playing defender to help play out from the back while Giner stays central to win the header and cover space.

The midfield operates with a three man midfield with a carrier. Roberto and Bossio work to connect the defensive and attacking lines by recycling possession. Fernando (C) plays as an attacking ten behind the striker to find the feet of the striker and create chances. Fernando (C) is tasked to press aggressively to win the ball high and pick up runners in the final third. This trio works to compress the midfield and ensure the team remains compact when the ball is lost.

Valencia uses three attackers across the front to stretch the defence. Penev acts as a pressing centre-forward to lead the hunt for the ball. Zurdi plays as a wide winger on the left to pull wide and create space, while Eloy acts as an inverted winger on the right to cut inside and threaten the box. The forwards work to press the opposition back line and create runs in behind through quick combinations.

One major advantage for Valencia is the ability to press high in coordinated waves. The front three and Fernando (C) trigger the press to force a long ball from the opposition. Another strength is the ability to create wide overloads when Quique and Voro push up to support the wingers. This creates more passing lanes to break the line and reach the final third.
