Independiente plays a brand of football built on defensive solidity and quick transitions using a 5-2-3 formation. This lineup aims to sit deep to protect the central areas before looking to hit opponents on the break. The system relies on a compact defensive block to deny space between the lines and allow the front three to exploit gaps when possession is regained.

Rodrigo Rey acts as the last line of defense in goal. The back five is composed of a central trio consisting of Rodrigo F. Cedres, Freire, and Lomonaco. Rodrigo F. Cedres holds the center of the defense, while Freire and Lomonaco act as wide centre-backs to cover the flanks. Zabala and Vera operate as attacking wing backs, tasked with providing width and tracking back to form a flat five when defending. This unit defends zonally to maintain a narrow defensive block that is hard to penetrate.

The midfield consists of a two man unit with Luciano Cabral and Felipe Loyola. These two players act as a double pivot to shield the defense and manage the middle third. Luciano Cabral and Felipe Loyola must work hard to intercept passes and recycle possession to move the team forward. They connect the defensive line to the attack by playing short passes to the wingers or looking for the striker. Their main job is to win the second ball and ensure the team remains compact when the opponent tries to play through the middle.

In the final third, Independiente uses three attackers to stretch the opposition. Gabriel Avalos operates as a lone striker, acting as a target man to hold up the ball and bring others into play. Montiel and Mazzantti stay wide as wingers to provide width and prepare for crosses or runs in behind. The team looks to attack in transition by moving the ball quickly from the midfield to the flanks. The forwards press from the front to force a long ball from the opposition back line, creating chances for the wing backs to overlap.

One major advantage for Independiente is the ability to create wide overloads when Vera and Zabala push high up the pitch. The formation also offers great compactness when defending, making it difficult for opponents to find space in the box. By using the five defenders, the team can easily shift to a low block to protect a lead or manage a game against heavy possession sides.

This formation is designed to stay compact and strike with speed on the counter. It is best suited for games against dominant teams where Independiente needs to absorb pressure and exploit space behind the opposition defense.
