Milan Football Formation
Starting Lineup
Gimenez (Okafor) · Chukwueze (Salamandra) · Leao (Hauge) · Pulisic (Vela) · Maignan (Vicario) · Buongiorno (Scalvini) · Van de ven (Tomori) · Udogie (Estupiñan) · Bellanova (Jimenez) · Frattesi (Timber/Modric) · Stiller (Varela/Modric)Milan plays a high press style of football through a 4-3-3 formation. This lineup is built to win the ball high up the pitch and attack with speed to catch the opposition out of position. The team relies on verticality to move from defense to attack with minimal passing in the middle third.
Maignan operates between the posts to command his area and start play. A back four forms the defensive line with Buongiorno acting as a ball playing defender to help play out from the back. Van de ven covers the space behind as he is fast enough to sweep behind a high line when the team pushes up. Bellanova acts as an attacking full back to provide width, while Udogie works on the left to push up the flank. The defensive unit works together to squeeze the space and keep the team compact.
The midfield functions with a three man midfield with a carrier. Stiller acts as the deep lying playmaker to recycle possession and find teammates in better positions. Frattesi works to connect the lines and makes late runs into the box to add an extra threat. Pulisic plays as an attacking ten behind the striker to link the midfield and the front line. This trio works to press aggressively to win the ball high and keep the pressure on the opposition.
Milan uses three attackers across the front to stretch the defence. Gimenez acts as a pressing centre forward to harass the opposition back line and hold up the ball. On the wings, Leao and Chukwueze act as inverted wingers who cut inside to create goal scoring chances. Leao uses his dribbling style to beat defenders on the flank. The attack is designed to create runs in behind and use the width provided by the overlapping full backs.
This formation offers the advantage of being able to press high in coordinated waves. Milan can also achieve wide overloads from overlapping full backs when Bellanova and Udogie push forward. The speed of transition allows the team to hit in behind on the transition before the opponent can set their defensive line.
This 4-3-3 formation is a high intensity system built for direct attacking. It is best suited for games where the team needs to dominate possession and force the opponent into mistakes through constant pressure.
