Starting Lineup

Dibusz · Cadu · Cisse · Gartenmann · Nagy · Maiga · Tóh · Levi · Joseph · Varga · Ötvös

Ferencváros focuses on a direct way of playing using a 5-2-3. This lineup is built to play on the break and use speed to punish teams. They look to stay compact when the opposition has the ball and then win it back high up the pitch to catch the defense out. The goal is to move the ball forward quickly to exploit any gaps left by the opponent.

Dibusz stays in goal to anchor the defense. A back five forms the base with Maiga acting as the central defender to win the header and clear the lines. Cisse and Gartenmann sit on either side of him to cover the space and win the second ball. The wing backs, Nagy and Cadu, provide width. Nagy can overlap the winger to push the team higher, while Cadu will track back to defend when needed. The whole unit will defend zonally to maintain a narrow defensive block and force the opposition wide.

The midfield works with a two man central unit. Tóh and Ötvös form the engine room to connect the defensive and attacking lines. To disrupt play, Tóh will often step up to press in a mid-block. Ötvös stays deeper to deny the pivot and help the defenders. They work together to squeeze the space and ensure the opposition cannot play through the lines easily. This pairing allows the team to recycle possession and wait for the right moment to go direct.

Up front, the team uses three attackers. Varga acts as the lone striker to hold up the ball and pin the last defender. Joseph and Levi operate as wide wingers. Cutting inside is a key movement for Joseph to find the feet of the striker, while Levi will spread wide to stretch the defence. They look to hit in behind on the transition and deliver early crosses to catch the keeper off guard. This front three works to press the opposition back line and create space for runs in behind.

This formation offers great speed of transition. When Ferencváros wins the ball, they can break quickly using the pace of Joseph and Levi. Another strength is the ability to defend in a narrow defensive block, which makes it hard for teams to find space in the middle. The wing backs, Nagy and Cadu, also allow for wide overloads when the team is in possession, which can pull the opposition defenders out of position.

The 5-2-3 is a solid formation for a team looking to absorb pressure and strike on the break. It is best suited for games against teams that dominate possession but leave space behind their high line.
