Arsenal prefers to control the game with a high press and a direct vertical style of play, utilizing a 5-2-3 formation. David Raya starts between the posts to sweep behind the high line and start attacks with short passes. The back five consists of a central trio and two wide defenders. William Saliba acts as a ball playing defender on the right, while Gabriel Magalhães provides aerial strength on the left. Martin Zubimendi sits in the middle of the back three to protect the zone and drop between the centre backs. Jurrien Timber operates as an attacking wing back on the right to provide width, while Aki Davies pushes up on the left to overlap the midfield.

The midfield is a two man unit that relies on high work rates to bridge the gaps. Martin Ødegaard and Eberechi Eze operate as two advanced midfielders who drive forward with the ball. Martin Ødegaard uses his passing range to find teammates in tight spaces, while Eze looks to carry the ball through the lines to connect the defense to the attack. This pairing must be ready to press aggressively to win the ball back high up the pitch and avoid being bypassed by the opposition.

In the final third, Arsenal employs three attackers to stretch the defense. Viktor Gyökeres acts as a powerful lone striker who can hold up the ball and link up play. Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka operate as wide attackers, with Saka often looking to cut inside to create goal scoring chances. The front three press the opposition back line constantly to prevent them from playing out from the back. They look to create runs in behind and deliver crosses into the box to test the defenders.

This formation offers Arsenal the ability to press high in coordinated waves, making it difficult for opponents to find time on the ball. The presence of attacking wing backs creates wide overloads, which helps to isolate wide players in one on one situations. Having three central defenders also ensures the team remains defensively solid when the opposition tries to counter at pace.
