Sporting KC Soccer Formation
Starting Lineup
Montas (Voloder) · Miller (Fernandez) · Bartlett (Radoja) · Bassong · Davis · Salloi (Munoz) · Garcia · Pulskcamp · Shapi (Shelton) · Ndembe (Thommy) · joveljićSporting KC plays with a heavy emphasis on verticality and high intensity, utilizing a 3-4-3 formation. This lineup is built to press hard and use wide areas to stretch the opposition. The goal is to win the ball back quickly and move it forward through the thirds to catch the defense out of position.
Pulskcamp guards the goal as the lone goalkeeper. The defensive unit works as a back three, with Bartlett acting as the central defender to anchor the line. Montas plays as the right center back to cover the flank, while Miller operates as the left center back. These three defenders must remain compact to deny through balls, with Bartlett often stepping up to intercept play. The unit functions as a narrow defensive block when the team sits deep.
The midfield uses a wide four to control the pitch. Davis and Bassong act as a double pivot in the center to shield the defense and recycle possession. Davis works to drive forward with the ball, while Bassong connects the defensive and attacking lines. On the flanks, Ndembe and Shapi play as wide midfielders. Ndembe and Shapi are tasked to spread wide and provide width, often pushing up to support the attackers or tracking back to help the back three.
In the final third, Sporting KC employs three attackers. joveljić operates as a pressing centre forward to pin the last defender and hold up the ball. Salloi and Garcia act as inverted wingers who cut inside to create chances. Salloi works from the left to find space in the half spaces, while Garcia moves from the right to attack the near post. This front line aims to create runs in behind and find the feet of the striker through quick combinations.
This formation offers several tactical advantages for Sporting KC. The presence of Ndembe and Shapi allows for wide overloads when they push high alongside the wingers. The double pivot of Davis and Bassong provides stability to prevent counter attacks. Additionally, the front three can press in pairs to force a long ball and win the second ball in the middle of the pitch.
The 3-4-3 lineup is designed for a high press and quick transitions. This setup is best suited for games against opponents who struggle to play out from the back under pressure.
