Starting Lineup

Nyland (A.Fernandez*) · Bade · Salas (Marcao*) · Carmona · Suazo (Pedrosa*) · Agoume (Gudelj) · Sow (Bueno) · Vargas (Peque) · Idumbo (Alfon) · Lukebakio · Akor Adams (Isaac)

Sevilla plays with a defensively solid identity that relies on the speed of transition, utilizing a 4-5-1 formation. This lineup is built to occupy the central areas and prevent the opposition from playing through the lines or finding space between the units.

Nyland operates between the posts to command the box. The defensive unit consists of a flat back four with Suazo at left back and Carmona at right back. These wide defenders must track back to prevent crosses and show the striker outside. In the center, Salas and Bade work to defend zonally, with Bade focusing on being dominant in the air and Salas acting to cover the space. The unit works to hold a compact block and deny the turn to any oncoming attackers.

A five man midfield provides the core of the Sevilla lineup. Agoume and Sow act as a double pivot to shield the defense and win the second ball. Vargas plays in the center to recycle possession and connect the defensive and attacking lines. Idumbo and Lukebakio occupy the half spaces, where they can use their pace to drive forward with the ball or press aggressively to win the ball high up the pitch. This formation allows the team to compress the midfield and deny passing lanes.

Akor Adams acts as a lone striker to lead the front line. He must hold up the ball and find the feet of his teammates to allow the midfield to move forward. Lukebakio uses his speed to make runs in behind or arrive late into the box to create scoring chances. The team attacks in combinations, often using the width of Suazo and Carmona to spread the defense. When out of possession, the forwards press the opposition back line to force a long ball.

This formation offers significant tactical advantages, particularly the numerical superiority in the midfield which allows the team to win many duels. The ability to press in a mid block ensures the team stays hard to beat and keeps the opponent from building comfortably. Furthermore, the team can exploit the space behind the opposition through quick transitions and through balls.

The 4-5-1 formation is built for defensive discipline and rapid counter attacks. It is best suited for games against possession based teams where the goal is to sit deep and strike on the break.
