Arsenal relies on a high press and quick transitions using a 5-2-3 formation. This lineup is built to win the ball high up the pitch and strike with pace once the opposition loses control. The Gunners look to control large areas of the field through aggressive movement and verticality.

David Raya starts in goal to sweep behind the back line. The defensive unit works as a back five with Martín Zubimendi acting as a central defender to help play out from the back. William Saliba sits as a right center back and uses his recovery speed and composure to manage space, while Gabriel Magalhães provides aerial strength on the left. Jurriën Timber operates as a right wing back to provide width, and Nuno Mendes pushes up as a left wing back. This formation allows the defenders to squeeze the space between the lines when the team sits in a mid-block.

The midfield consists of a two man unit designed to connect the defense to the attack. Declan Rice plays as a central midfielder to shield the defense and break up play, while Martin Ødegaard operates in the right channel to create chances and find the feet of the striker. These two must cover vast amounts of ground to ensure the team stays compact. They work to win the second ball and quickly move the ball to the wide players.

The attack uses three players across the front to stretch the opposition. Victor Gyökeres acts as a pressing centre forward who can hold up the ball and lead the line. On the wings, Bukayo Saka operates on the right as an inverted winger to cut inside, while Rafael Leão provides explosive dribbling and width from the left. The team attacks in combinations to isolate defenders in one on one situations, often using the wing backs to create overloads.

One major advantage for Arsenal is the ability to create wide overloads when Jurriën Timber and Bukayo Saka double up on the flank. The team also benefits from the ability to press high in coordinated waves, using the front three to force a long ball from the opposition. This setup makes them very difficult to play through in the central areas.

This 5-2-3 formation is built for high intensity and rapid attacking movements. It is best suited for matches against teams that try to build play slowly from the back.
