Starting Lineup

SV Ried plays with a heavy focus on high pressing and direct verticality in a 2-5-3 formation. This lineup is built to win the ball high up the pitch and strike quickly before the opposition can settle. By committing many bodies forward, the team aims to overwhelm the opponent in their own half and use the numbers in the middle to control the tempo of the game.

Leitner stays between the posts to act as the last line of defense. Behind the midfield, Havenaar and Steurer operate as a narrow duo of central defenders. They must play a high line to keep the distance between the lines small, with Steurer often tasked to cover space if the press is bypassed. Since there are only two defenders, Havenaar and Steurer must be ready to win the second ball and clear the lines immediately when the ball is lost to prevent long balls from catching them out.

The midfield contains five players who act as the engine room for SV Ried. Mayer and Scherzer form a double pivot to shield the two defenders and help play out from the back. In front of them, Maart and Rasner operate as two central midfielders who drive forward with the ball and occupy the half spaces. Grosse plays as an attacking ten behind the striker, looking to find pockets of space and play through the lines to the front three. This unit works to compress the midfield and press the opponent relentlessly.

The attacking front three creates significant problems for the opposition back line. Kiedl operates as a pressing centre-forward, looking to pin the last defender and fight for long balls. On the flanks, Bajic and Van Wyk act as wide wingers who stretch the defence by staying wide. They look to isolate one on one situations or cut inside to create space for the midfielders. When the team moves into the final third, the wingers look to get to the byline to deliver crosses into the box for Kiedl.

One major advantage for SV Ried is the ability to press high in coordinated waves, making it difficult for opponents to build from the back. The presence of five players in the middle allows for numerical superiority in the central areas, which helps the team recycle possession quickly. Additionally, the frontline of three can pin the opposition defenders back, creating space for Grosse to operate in the hole.
