Querétaro Football Formation
Starting Lineup
Allison · Venegas · Mendoza · Villanueva · Manzanarez · Escamilla · Armenta · Zapata · Julio · Robles · AvilaQuerétaro aims to control the center of the pitch and win the ball high up the pitch using a 2-5-3 formation. This lineup is built to play a very vertical style of football that relies on intense pressure in the middle third. By packing the center, the team looks to win the second ball and move the play forward immediately.
Allison stays between the posts to organize the back line. The defensive unit consists of a narrow back two with Villanueva and Manzanarez acting as the central defenders. They must defend man-to-man and stay compact to cover the large spaces behind them. Because there are only two central defenders, they often have to step up to intercept passes or drop back to cover runs in behind.
The midfield is the engine of the Querétaro lineup. Mendoza and Venegas operate as a double pivot to shield the defense and win possession in the middle. Escamilla sits just ahead of them as a central midfielder to connect the defensive and attacking lines. Armenta plays as an attacking midfielder on the left while Zapata operates on the right, both looking to find space in the half-spaces. This group is designed to compress the midfield and make it hard for the opposition to play through the center.
The attack uses three players across the front to stretch the defence. Avila acts as the lone striker and stays central to find the feet of the striker or run into channels. Julio plays as a wide winger on the right and Robles plays as a wide winger on the left. Both Julio and Robles look to isolate a one-on-one wide or cut inside to create chances. The movement is designed to create runs in behind and allow the midfielders to arrive late into the box.
This formation offers significant tactical advantages through its massive presence in the center of the park. The team can achieve numerical superiority in midfield to dominate the ball and disrupt the opponent. Another strength is the ability to press in a mid-block or high to force a long ball from the opposition.
The 2-5-3 is a high-risk, high-reward formation centered on central dominance and rapid transitions. It is best suited for games where the team needs to overwhelm an opponent in the middle of the pitch to regain control.
