Chivas Football Formation
Starting Lineup
Goalie (1) · CB (4) · CB (3) · RB (2) · LB (12) · RDM (6) · LDM (5) · AM (10) · LW (7) · ST (9) · RW (11)Chivas play a high press game built on a 4-3-3 formation. This lineup aims to win the ball back high up the pitch and use quick transitions to catch the opposition out of position. The team seeks to control the tempo by staying compact and forcing errors in the opponent half.
Goalie acts as the last line of defense behind a flat back four. The RCB and LCB must stay disciplined to defend zonally and cover the space if the full backs push up. RB and LB provide width by pushing high to support the attack, while the central defenders focus on winning the second ball and clearing the lines when under pressure. The defensive unit works to squeeze the space and keep the distance between the lines small.
The midfield functions with a three man midfield with a carrier and two holding players. LDM and RCM work to shield the defense and pick up runners in the middle. LCM acts as the link between the defensive unit and the attackers, often dropping into half spaces to receive. AM plays as an attacking ten behind the striker, looking to find the feet of the striker or arrive late into the box to score. This group must press aggressively to win the ball high and recycle possession once it is regained.
Chivas utilize three attackers across the front to stretch the defense. ST acts as a pressing centre-forward to harass the opposition back line and hold up the ball. RW and LW operate as inverted wingers who cut inside to create central overloads. These wide players look to isolate a one on one or pull wide to create space for the AM to operate. The attack relies on combinations in tight spaces and quick runs in behind to break the lines.
One major advantage of this formation is the ability to press high in coordinated waves, making it difficult for opponents to play out from the back. The presence of the AM allows for numerical superiority in the central areas when the wingers cut inside. Chivas also benefit from the width provided by the full backs, which creates wide overloads and forces the opposing defense to spread wide.
This 4-3-3 formation is built for aggressive, proactive football that dominates the ball and territory. It is best suited for games against teams that struggle to play under pressure or those that sit in a deep low block.
