Starting Lineup

Real Madrid aims to play a low block focused on defensive solidity and rapid transitions in this 5-4-1 formation. The lineup is built to sit deep and absorb pressure before hitting the opposition in behind. By packing the defensive and middle areas, the team looks to squeeze the space between the lines and force the opponent into long balls.

ST guards the goal as the goalkeeper. The back line consists of a back five where AM acts as the central defender to anchor the unit. RCM and LCM sit as the left and right centre-backs to maintain a narrow defensive block. On the flanks, LW operates as a right wing back to provide width in transition, while RW plays as a left wing back to cover the defensive flank. This unit works together to defend zonally and protect the central areas.

The midfield operates in a flat four to congest the middle of the pitch. RB plays as the right midfielder and LB occupies the left midfield role to provide width and track back when needed. RCB and RCM act as the central midfielders to control the tempo and protect the back five. RCB works to shield the defence while RCM looks to carry the ball forward and link the defensive unit to the lone striker. This four-man line is designed to stay compact and deny passing lanes through the centre.

Real Madrid uses a lone striker, ST, to lead the line. ST must hold up the ball and wait for support from the advancing midfielders or wing backs. The attack relies on quick breaks where the wing backs, LW and RW, push high to provide width. The forwards press the opposition back line to force errors and long balls. The goal is to isolate attackers in one on one situations once the team wins the ball back and breaks quickly.
