Ferencváros Football Formation
Starting Lineup
Gera · Lisztes · Csongvai · Sallai · Tóth · Tóth · Vancsa · Csongvai · Szalai · Schön · GulácsiFerencváros relies on a compact defensive block to win the ball and strike quickly. This lineup uses a 4-5-1 formation to squeeze the space in the middle of the pitch. The team aims to stay hard to beat and uses the midfield to clog passing lanes. By staying narrow, Ferencváros forces opponents to play wide and avoid the central areas.
Gulácsi stands between the posts to organize the back line with his command of the area and shot stopping. The defensive unit works as a flat back four with Sallai at right back and Schön at left back. Sallai and Schön must track back to cover the flanks when the team loses possession. In the center, Csongvai and Szalai act as the main defenders. Csongvai focuses on winning the header and clearing the lines, while Szalai works to cover the space behind him. The unit holds a line to set the offside trap and maintains a low block when under heavy pressure.
The midfield unit consists of five players who control the tempo and protect the defense. Tóth and Csongvai form a double pivot to shield the defense and win the second ball. These two roles are vital to deny the pivot of the opposition. Vancsa and Gera operate as the central midfielders to connect the defensive line to the attack. Vancsa works to recycle possession and move the ball wide, while Gera makes late runs into the box to add numbers. Lisztes plays as an attacking ten behind the striker to find the feet of the striker and play through the lines.
In the final third, the team relies on Tóth as a lone striker to hold up the ball. Tóth must work as a pressing centre-forward to disrupt the opposition back line. Because the formation uses a single forward, the wide midfielders and Lisztes must provide support. Lisztes tries to slip through balls to Tóth to catch the defenders out of position. The team looks to hit in behind on the transition by using the speed of the players to break quickly. Players look to spread wide to stretch the defense before playing a one-two to break the line.
The main advantage of this formation is the numerical superiority in the central area. With five players in the middle, the team can easily compress the midfield and win the second ball. Another strength is the compactness when defending in a mid-block. This makes it very difficult for opponents to find space between the lines. The team also uses the speed of transition to move from a defensive stance to an attacking one in seconds.
This 4-5-1 formation makes Ferencváros a difficult team to break down through the center. It is best suited for matches against dominant sides where the team needs to sit deep and counter at pace.
