Lyon favors an aggressive, high pressing identity built on rapid verticality and a 4-2-4 formation. This lineup seeks to overwhelm opponents by committing many bodies forward to win the ball high up the pitch and punish the opposition before they can organize. By pushing the line forward, Lyon aims to force long balls and turn over possession in dangerous areas.

Angel sits between the posts to guard the goal. The back line operates as a flat back four, with Bonheur and Valdes acting as full backs to provide width. Wilfried S and Leonel function as the central defensive pair, tasked with defending the space behind the midfield. Wilfried S and Leonel must stay concentrated to manage the space behind the high line, while the full backs must track back quickly to prevent being caught out during transitions.

The midfield relies on a double pivot to manage the central corridor. Alane and Gbeli occupy the two central roles, tasked with winning the second ball and recycling possession. Alane and Gbeli need to cover vast amounts of ground to protect the two central defenders. They act as the engine room, connecting the defensive unit to the front four and ensuring they do not get bypassed too easily by direct play.

The attacking unit uses four players to stretch the defence. Aldrich and El Joh operate as wide wingers who look to cut inside and create scoring opportunities, while Tchoffo and Nelson lead the line as a two forwards partnership. Tchoffo and Nelson work to pin the last defender, using their presence to create space for the wingers. The team builds attacks by spreading wide through Aldrich and El Joh, using quick passes to find the forwards in behind the opposition line.

This formation offers several tactical advantages, most notably the ability to press high in coordinated waves. By having four players positioned high, Lyon can trigger a press from the front to squeeze the space in the opponent's half. The setup also creates numerical superiority in the final third, allowing the team to overload the box during attacking phases.

Lyon utilizes this high intensity lineup to dominate games through sheer offensive pressure. It is a formation best suited for situations where the team needs to break down a low block or punish an opponent that struggles to play out from the back.
