Racing Club plays a highly vertical game through a 3-4-3 formation. The lineup is built to play with high intensity and use the full width of the pitch to create chances. This lineup seeks to overwhelm the opposition through rapid movement and direct play.
Robert guards the goal to anchor the defensive unit. The back line consists of a back three featuring Di Cesare, Lucas Halter, and Colombo. Lucas Halter and Colombo act as wide centre-backs who cover the flanks when the wide midfielders push up. Di Cesare stays central to protect the middle and win the header during set pieces. The trio works to maintain a high line to squeeze the space.
In the middle of the pitch, Nardoni and Dybala act as a central pairing to connect the defense to the attack. Nardoni plays to shield the defense and pick up runners, while Dybala carries the ball forward to create threats. Valentín Barco and Martinera occupy the wide areas as wing backs to provide constant width. Valentín Barco can push high to overlap the winger, while Martinera must track back to ensure the team does not get caught on the break. This group works to win the second ball and recycle possession.
The attacking unit features three players tasked with pinning the last defender. Gabigol acts as the central striker to hold up the ball and find the feet of his teammates. Maravilla and Vergara play as wide attackers who cut inside to create central threats. Maravilla looks to isolate a one-on-one wide, while Vergara works to stretch the defense by pulling wide. The front three press from the front to force a long ball from the opposition. The team looks to hit in behind on the transition or find the attackers in tight spaces.
One major advantage for Racing Club is the ability to create wide overloads as Valentín Barco and Martinera join the attack. The formation also allows the team to press in a mid-block or win it back high up the pitch through coordinated movement. By using the three forwards and two wide players, the team can quickly switch play to find space.
This 3-4-3 formation is defined by its aggression and ability to stretch the opposition. It is best used when facing teams that sit deep and require constant width to break them down.
