Besiktas focuses on a compact defensive unit and quick verticality in a 4-5-1. This formation is built to play as a counter attacking side that waits for the opposition to commit bodies forward before hitting them in behind. The team looks to control the central areas to stay solid and then move the ball quickly once possession is regained.

Mert stands between the posts to command his area. The back line functions as a flat back four where taylan acts as the right back to provide width. x plays as the left back to balance the defense. In the middle of the defense, x operates as the right centre back while emirhan occupies the left centre back position. The unit aims to stay close together to deny space between the lines and win the second ball whenever the opposition clears their lines.

The midfield uses a double pivot to protect the back four. Ndidi and orkun sit in front of the defense to shield the unit and intercept passes. Ndidi uses his high pressing intensity and ability to win tackles to disrupt play. Rafa operates in the central midfield role to connect the defensive and attacking lines. He works to recycle possession and find the feet of the striker. The other two midfielders in the central roles must press aggressively to win the ball high up the pitch and ensure the midfield remains narrow when the opponent tries to play through the lines.

Besiktas utilizes a lone striker in abraham to lead the line. Abraham acts as a pressing centre forward to force the opposition back line into mistakes. The attack relies on the midfielders to drive forward and support the front man. When the team transitions, the wingers and central midfielders look to hit in behind on the transition to find abraham. The aim is to create runs in behind or allow the midfielders to arrive late into the box to finish chances.

A major strength of this formation is the ability to press in a mid-block to force a long ball from the opponent. The presence of Ndidi and orkun allows Besiktas to maintain compactness when defending in the middle of the pitch. This setup also provides speed of transition, as the team can move from a defensive block to an attacking state very quickly through the central midfielders.

This 4-5-1 formation is built to be a defensively solid unit that relies on rapid counter attacks. It is best suited for games against teams that dominate possession and leave space behind their high defensive line.
