In goal, Iturbe stands as the last line of defense. The back line consists of only two central defenders, Chust and Affengruber, who must operate in a high line to squeeze the space. Because there are no full backs, these two central defenders must stay narrow and be ready to defend one on one or step up to intercept passes.

The midfield works as a four man unit designed to control the center and protect the two defenders. Á. Núñez and Pétrot form a double pivot to shield the defense and win the second ball. They sit deeper to deny the turn to opposition attackers and recycle possession when needed. In front of them, Redondo and Neto act as two tens in the half spaces. Redondo looks to carry the ball forward and link the lines, while Neto moves into gaps to create chances. This four man midfield group must be ready to press in pairs to win it back high up the pitch.

The attack is incredibly heavy with four players pushing the line. A. Silva and Á. Rodríguez operate as two forwards in a partnership, looking to find the feet of the striker or run in behind. On the flanks, Valera and Febas act as wide wingers who spread wide to stretch the defense. Valera pulls wide to provide width, while Febas looks to cut inside and find pockets of space. This formation is designed to create wide overloads and allows the forwards to play a one-two to bypass the opposition back line.

This formation offers massive numerical superiority in the attacking third. By having four attackers and two attacking midfielders, Elche can pin the last defender and create constant chaos. The ability to press high in coordinated waves from the front four and the two attacking midfielders makes it very difficult for opponents to play out from the back. Another strength is the speed of transition when the ball is won in the middle of the park.
