Rangers Football Formation
Starting Lineup
Butland · Souttar · Djiga* · Fernandez* · Raskin · Diomande* · Aasgaard* · Gassama · Antman* · Igamane · Dessers*Rangers use a direct and vertical style of play within a 3-5-2 formation. The Light Blues want to win the ball high up the pitch and move the ball quickly to catch the opposition out of position. This formation is built to dominate the middle of the pitch and use wide areas to stretch the defence.
Butland operates as the goalkeeper to command his area and protect the goal. The defensive unit functions as a back three with Souttar, Djiga, and Fernandez. Souttar uses his aerial strength to win headers and clear the lines during set pieces or crosses. Djiga and Fernandez work together to cover the space and defend zonally. When the team sits deep, Antman and Gassama drop back to form a five man line.
The midfield features a three man group that links the defence to the attack. Raskin plays as the single pivot to shield the defenders and intercept passes. Diomande and Aasgaard act as the central runners who drive forward to carry the ball. They work to press in a mid-block and win the second ball to keep the pressure on. This lineup allows Raskin to recycle possession while the others move to find the feet of the striker.
An attacking partnership of two forwards leads the line. Dessers acts as a physical presence to hold up the ball and link play. Igamane looks to make runs in behind to exploit the space between the defenders. Antman and Gassama act as attacking wing backs to provide width and stretch the defence. They aim to get to the byline and whip it in for the two strikers to attack the near post or far post.
This formation provides numerical superiority in the central areas of the pitch. The team can squeeze the space in the middle to force a long ball from the opponent. There is also a massive threat in transition as the team can hit in behind on the transition with speed. The wide players ensure that the team can spread wide to create chances.
The 3-5-2 formation provides a way for Rangers to control the center while remaining dangerous on the break. This lineup is best suited for matches against teams that play a high line and leave gaps behind their defenders.
