Haiti National Football Team Formation
Starting Lineup
E.Room (C) · R.van Eijma · R.Bazoer · S.Floranus · S.Sambo · J.Antonisse · J.Locadia · L.Bacuna · T.Chong · L.Comenecia · J.BacunaHaiti aims to play a direct and counter attacking style of football through a 4-5-1 formation. This lineup relies on a compact block and quick transitions to punish opponents when they commit too many players forward. By clogging the central areas, the team looks to win the ball and move it quickly to the front line.
The defensive unit is led by goalkeeper and captain E.Room, who commands the area from the back. Haiti sits in a mid-block with a flat back four consisting of S.Floranus at left back and S.Sambo at right back. The central defenders, R.van Eijma and R.Bazoer, work together to defend zonally and maintain a tight line. S.Floranus and S.Sambo focus on staying disciplined to prevent crosses, while R.van Eijma and R.Bazoer look to win the second ball and clear the lines when the opposition presses.
The midfield is a crowded five man unit designed to squeeze the space between the lines. L.Comenecia and L.Bacuna act as a double pivot to shield the defence and break up play. J.Bacuna operates in the center to connect the defensive and attacking lines, while T.Chong and J.Antonisse occupy the half spaces to provide more presence in the final third. L.Comenecia and L.Bacuna focus on winning the ball back, while J.Bacuna and the others look to carry the ball forward or switch play to find space.
In the attacking phase, the team utilizes a lone striker in J.Locadia to lead the line. J.Locadia acts as a focal point to hold up the ball and wait for support from the midfield. The wide midfielders, T.Chong and J.Antonisse, tuck inside to create numerical superiority in the middle, which allows the team to play through the lines once possession is regained. The goal is to use the movement of the midfielders to create runs in behind the opposition defense and isolate J.Locadia in one on one situations.
Haiti benefits from significant compactness when defending in their mid-block, making it difficult for opponents to play through the middle. The presence of a double pivot with L.Comenecia and L.Bacuna provides a strong screen that allows the full backs to remain cautious. Additionally, the team can use the speed of transition to catch opponents off guard by hitting them in behind on the transition.
This 4-5-1 formation provides a solid base for a side that prefers to sit deep and strike on the break. It is best suited for games against dominant teams where Haiti needs to deny the turn and force a long ball.
