PSG aims to win the ball high up the pitch and move forward quickly through a vertical system. This lineup uses a 5-2-3 formation to control the pitch through wide areas while maintaining a strong central core. The team relies on rapid transitions to catch the opposition out of position once possession is regained.

Gianluigi Donnarumma stays between the posts to command his area and sweep behind the defenders. The defensive unit operates in a back five with Marquinhos playing as a ball playing centre back alongside E. Camavinga and R. Dias. Marquinhos acts as the leader in this unit to organize the line. N. Mendes operates as an attacking wing back on the left to provide width, while A. Hakimi acts as an attacking wing back on the right to push high into the final third. The three central defenders work to defend zonally and cover the space left behind when the wing backs push up.

The midfield functions as a double pivot designed to link the defense to the attack. Vitinha works to recycle possession and plays short from the back to move the ball into advanced areas. Alongside him, R. Gaúcho helps to press in a mid-block and uses his ability to carry the ball forward through the center. These two players must work to compress the midfield and ensure they do not get bypassed during transitions. Vitinha often drops deep to collect the ball from the defenders to start a new attack.

PSG utilizes three attackers to stretch the defense across the pitch. O. Dembélé plays as a lone striker to hold up the ball and win the second ball for his teammates. K. Kvaratskhelia acts as an inverted winger on the left, frequently cutting inside to find space in the half spaces. On the right, D. Doué operates as an inverted winger to create overloads. This front line is designed to create runs in behind and allow the wing backs to overlap the winger to deliver crosses into the box.

This formation offers significant wide overloads because A. Hakimi and N. Mendes can push high to support the attackers. The team also benefits from a strong central presence in the back five which makes it difficult for opponents to score through the middle. PSG can shift quickly from a mid-block to a high press to win the ball back in dangerous areas.

The 5-2-3 lineup provides a strong platform for rapid counter attacks and wide play. This system is best suited for matches against teams that play with a high line and leave space behind their defenders.
