Atlanta United seeks to control the tempo through a high press and heavy defensive presence in a 4-5-1. This formation is built to suffocate the opposition in the middle of the pitch and win the ball back quickly. By keeping a dense block in the center, Atlanta United aims to frustrate opponents and use quick transitions to catch them out of position.

The defensive unit starts with HALL in goal, who oversees a flat back four. ZAY and CHAR act as the central defenders, where ZAY provides physical presence to win the header and CHAR focuses on covering space behind the line. On the flanks, CONFIGURE and INGUS operate as full backs to maintain the defensive line. CONFIGURE stays more disciplined to protect the flank, while INGUS is tasked to push higher to provide support. The unit works to hold a compact shape and deny the turn to any attacking players.

In the middle of the pitch, a five man midfield creates a wall that is difficult to pass through. ORDER sits as the single pivot to shield the defence and disrupt play. Ahead of him, RAY and X5X act as the central engines, with X5X looking to carry the ball forward while RAY works to link the defensive and attacking lines. The wide players, SOLAR and IPPO, provide the necessary width to stretch the opposition. SOLAR and IPPO are expected to track back to help the full backs while also looking to switch play to the opposite side.

The attacking phase relies on SHADOW as a lone striker who must work hard to press from the front. SHADOW is responsible for holding up the ball and finding the feet of the striker to bring others into the play. Because the team uses a single striker, the width comes from SOLAR and IPPO when they push up to support the attack. The goal is to create runs in behind the opposition defence or allow the central midfielders to arrive late into the box to finish moves.

This lineup offers the advantage of compactness when defending in a mid block. The numerical superiority in the center of the pitch makes it very hard for opponents to play through the lines. Additionally, the presence of wide midfielders allows for quick transitions where the team can hit in behind on the transition once the ball is won.

Atlanta United relies on this 4-5-1 to maintain control and disrupt the rhythm of the game. This setup is best suited for matches against teams that prefer to hold possession and play through a crowded middle.
