The midfield is a four man unit that connects the back line to the attack. Hjulmand sits deep to shield the defense and win the second ball. Morita pushes higher to act as an attacking ten, looking to arrive late into the box or play through the lines. Vagiannidis and Maxi occupy the wide areas of the midfield to provide width and support the wingers. This group works to squeeze the space and win it back high up the pitch to keep the pressure on.

Sporting CP utilizes four attackers to stretch the defense. Trincão stays wide on the right to isolate a one on one, while Reforço EE cuts inside from the left. Pote and Suarez play as a two man forward partnership in the center. Pote looks to link up play between the lines, while Suarez acts as a presence to hold up the ball and find the feet of his teammates. They press from the front to force a long ball from the opposition.

This formation offers significant advantages through numerical superiority in the final third.
