Starting Lineup

Karic · Aiwu · Lavalee · Oermann · Jatta · Bøving · Kiteishvili · Rozga · Horvat · Gorenc Stankovic · Christensen

SK Sturm utilizes a highly aggressive 2-4-4 formation. This lineup is built to play a high press and vertical style of football. The focus is on winning the ball high up the pitch and attacking the opponent with speed and power.

Christensen stands alone in goal to protect the small defensive unit. The defense consists of a central pair, Lavalee and Oermann, who operate in a high line. Lavalee and Oermann must act as ball playing defenders to help play short from the back. They are required to step up to intercept passes and must be ready to cover wide areas when the team pushes forward. Because there are only two defenders, they often have to defend man to man to stop runners from getting behind them.

The midfield is organized as a double pivot with Karic and Aiwu sitting in front of the defense. Karic and Aiwu work to shield the two central defenders and win the second ball. They are responsible to recycle possession and move the ball forward to the attacking unit. In front of them, Horvat and Gorenc Stankovic operate in the half spaces. Horvat and Gorenc Stankovic must press aggressively to trigger a press and win the ball back high up the pitch. They act as the link that carries the ball forward into the final third.

The attacking line is extremely potent with four players across the front. Kiteishvili and Jatta operate as a central striking partnership. To maintain the pressure, Kiteishvili looks to link play and hold up the ball, while Jatta looks to run in behind the defense. On the wings, Bøving and Rozga act as wide attackers to stretch the defense. Bøving and Rozga can cut inside to create more central presence or spread wide to pull the defenders out of position. This front four works to press the opposition back line and create chances through quick combinations.

One major advantage of this lineup is the ability to create numerical superiority in the attacking zones. With four players high up the pitch, SK Sturm can pin the last defender and dominate the box. Another strength is the speed of transition. When Karic or Aiwu win a tackle, they can immediately pass to the wingers or the two strikers to hit in behind on the transition. The team is also built to squeeze the space and force the opponent into mistakes in their own half.

This 2-4-4 formation is a high-risk, high-reward system built for relentless pressure. It is best suited for matches against teams that struggle to play out from the back or cannot handle a direct, vertical attack.
