Starting Lineup

Gyökeres · Trossard · Madueke · Eze · Rice · Zubimendi · Calafiori · Gabriel · Saliba · Timber · Raya

Arsenal aims to dominate games through heavy possession and high pressing in a 4-3-3 formation. This lineup focuses on controlling the ball and squeezing the space in the opposition half to win it back high up the pitch. The goal is to use ball retention to move the opponent around before breaking the lines with quick vertical passes.

Raya operates between the posts to play short from the back and start attacks. The defensive unit sits in a high line with Saliba and Gabriel acting as the central pairing. Saliba uses his composure and recovery speed to cover the space behind, while Gabriel is dominant in the air and provides physical presence. Timber acts as a full back on the right to provide defensive stability, whereas Calafiori functions as an attacking full back on the left to push up and help the midfield.

A three man midfield provides the engine for Arsenal to progress through the thirds. Zubimendi acts as the deep lying playmaker, dropping between the centre backs to receive and recycle possession. Rice works as a carrier who can drive forward with the ball and press aggressively to win the ball back in a mid block. Eze plays as an attacking ten in the hole, finding pockets of space to connect the defensive and attacking lines and arriving late into the box to score.

The attacking front three creates constant threats in the final third. Gyökeres operates as a pressing centre forward who holds up the ball to bring others into play. On the flanks, Trossard plays as an inverted winger who cuts inside to create chances, while Madueke stays wide to stretch the defence and take on his marker. This combination of width and central presence allows the team to attack in combinations and use the movement of the forwards to pin the last defender.

This formation offers significant advantages such as numerical superiority in midfield when Eze pushes forward. The team can also create wide overloads from the movements of Calafiori and Trossard. The ability to press in coordinated waves allows the Gunners to force a long ball from the opposition and regain control quickly.

Arsenal utilizes this 4-3-3 to suffocate opponents through high ball retention and intense pressure. This lineup is best suited for games against teams that struggle to play out from the back under pressure.
