Peñarol looks to play a vertical game that focuses on quick transitions and direct play. This lineup uses a 4-3-3 formation to stretch the opposition and create space in the final third. The team seeks to win the ball in the middle third and move it forward rapidly to the attackers.

Zarutskiy starts between the posts to command the area. In front of him, the defensive unit operates as a flat back four. Martynovich and Sorokin act as the central pairing, where Martynovich uses his aerial strength to win headers while Sorokin provides cover. On the flanks, Tapalov and Mrynskiy act as full backs to guard the wide areas. They must be ready to push up to support the attack or drop deep to defend against wide runners.

The midfield works to control the tempo and connect the defensive line to the front three. A three-man midfield features Glazer and Arad who operate in the central roles. Glazer acts to shield the defence and win the second ball, while Arad looks to carry the ball forward and drive into the half spaces. Ricardinho plays as the attacking ten behind the striker, moving into the pockets of space to link the play. This trio must compress the midfield when out of possession to prevent the opponent from playing through the lines.

Peñarol utilizes three attackers to pin the opposition back. Serginho acts as the lone striker, playing to hold up the ball and find the feet of his teammates. On either side, Satpaev and Gromyko play as wide wingers who look to stretch the defence. Satpaev and Gromyko often cut inside to create goalscoring chances or cross from the byline. The movement of these three forces the opposition defenders to stay deep, creating gaps for Ricardinho to exploit.

This formation offers several tactical advantages. The wide positioning of Satpaev and Gromyko allows for quick switches of play to find space on the opposite flank. Peñarol can also achieve numerical superiority in the middle if Ricardinho drops deeper to assist the central midfielders. The ability to press in a mid-block helps the team win the ball back quickly to start a counter at pace.
