Starting Lineup

Williams · Lunga · Lebusa · Cupido · Mndunyelwa · Modiba · Basadien · Morena · Khoza · Mothiba · Mvala

Sundowns look to control games through high possession and a heavy press in a 4-3-3. This formation is built to dominate the ball and squeeze the opposition in their own half. By maintaining a high line, Sundowns aim to win it back high up the pitch and keep the play moving forward quickly.

Williams operates as the lone goalkeeper in this lineup. The defensive unit functions as a flat back four that can step up to catch opponents offside. Cupido plays as the right back, ready to push forward and overlap, while Lebusa provides width on the left. In the center, Khoza and Mvala act as the main pairing, where Khoza covers the space and Mvala holds the line. They work together to defend zonally and ensure they do not get caught by long balls.

The midfield works as a three man midfield with a single pivot. Modiba sits in front of the back four to shield the defence and recycle possession. Beside him, Mndunyelwa and Basadien act as the two central midfielders who connect the defensive and attacking lines. Basadien works to press aggressively to win the ball high, while Mndunyelwa helps to drive forward with the ball to break the line. This group manages the tempo by playing short from the back and moving the ball through the thirds.

Up front, the attack features three attackers across the front. Morena and Lunga act as wide wingers who hug the touchline to stretch the defence. They look to isolate a one on one wide or cut inside to find the feet of the striker. Mothiba acts as the lone striker and stays central to hold up the ball and pin the last defender. The wingers look to get to the byline to deliver early crosses or cut it back for the midfielders to arrive late into the box.

Sundowns find success through numerical superiority in midfield and the ability to press high in coordinated waves. The wide players help create wide overloads from overlapping full backs, which forces the opposition to shift across the pitch. This movement creates space in the middle for the midfielders to exploit.

This 4-3-3 formation relies on high energy to maintain a dominant presence on the ball. It is best suited for games against teams that sit deep and struggle to handle intense pressure.
