The midfield operates as a double pivot with E. Anderson and D. Luiz. D. Luiz acts as a deep lying playmaker to recycle possession and switch play, while E. Anderson works to press aggressively and win the second ball. This duo connects the defensive unit to the front three by picking up the ball from the center backs and driving it forward. They must stay compact to prevent opponents from playing through the middle.

Nottm Forest use three attackers to stretch the opposition defense. Kalimuendo leads the line as a lone striker, looking to hold up the ball and link play.
