Ukraine looks to dominate games through a high press and heavy offensive volume with a 2-5-3 formation. This lineup is built to control the middle of the pitch and overwhelm opponents in their own half. By committing so many players forward, the team seeks to win the ball back high up the pitch and immediately threaten the goal.

Trubin acts as the last line of defense in goal. The defensive unit operates with a very high line consisting of only two central defenders, Matvienko and Zabarnyi. Matvienko provides cover while Zabarnyi stays strong to intercept long balls. Because the back line is so thin, these two must be ready to step up and squeeze the space to set the offside trap. They rely on the midfield to protect the area in front of them to prevent the opposition from getting behind the defense.

The midfield acts as the engine of the Ukraine lineup. A double pivot of Brazhko and Mykolenko sits deeper to shield the defense and win the second ball. Ahead of them, Zinchenko and Yarmolyuk operate in the half spaces to connect the defensive and attacking lines. Sudakov plays as the attacking ten behind the striker, looking to receive on the half-turn and play through the lines. This five man group allows the team to control the tempo and recycle possession through the center.

Ukraine utilizes three attackers to stretch the defence. Mudryk and Tsygankov operate as wide wingers who cut inside to create goal scoring chances. Mudryk uses his blistering pace to threaten runs in behind, while Tsygankov looks to combine in tight spaces. Dovbyk acts as the lone striker and target man, tasked to hold up the ball and win the header when the team plays direct. This front three works to pin the last defender and create space for late runs from the midfield.

This formation offers huge advantages in terms of numerical superiority in midfield. The heavy presence of five players in the middle makes it very difficult for opponents to play through the center. Another strength is the ability to press in coordinated waves, with the front three and the attacking midfielders triggering a press to force a long ball from the opposition.

The 2-5-3 formation is a high risk, high reward system designed for total dominance. It is best suited for games where Ukraine needs to break down a parked bus or face an opponent that struggles to play out from the back.
