Strebinger acts as the goalkeeper within a defensive unit that uses a back five. Sokołowski sits in the center of the back line to hold the position. Jedrzejczyk and Rose act as the wide center backs, with Jedrzejczyk providing aerial strength to win the header. Johanson and Mladenovic operate as attacking wing backs to provide width. The wide center backs must be ready to cover the space left by the wing backs. This back line can defend zonally and shift together to squeeze the space.

The midfield consists of a two man pairing. Kharatin and Josue work to control the middle of the pitch. Josue acts as the creative engine, using his passing range to play through the lines and find the forwards. Kharatin stays more central to shield the defense and win the second ball. These two players are responsible for recycling possession and connecting the defense to the attack. They must also be prepared to track back when the opposition carries the ball forward.

In the attacking third, the team uses three players across the front. Pekhart serves as a target man to hold up the ball and win the header. Ivi Lopez and Kastrati play as wide attackers who can cut inside. Ivi Lopez often looks to find space in the channels while Kastrati stretches the defense. Johanson and Mladenovic will overlap the wingers to create wide overloads and deliver crosses. This presence of a target man allows the wide attackers to play in combinations.

The main advantages of this formation include the ability to create wide overloads from the wing backs. The back five ensures compactness when defending in a low block. When the team wins the ball high up the pitch, they can break quickly using the pace of the front three. Pekhart also creates opportunities for midfielders to arrive late into the box. The numerical superiority in the back line makes it very difficult for opponents to find gaps.
