Inter Football Formation
Starting Lineup
LAUTARO (Pio Esposito) · HENRIQUE (Mkhitaryan, Frattesi) · THURAM (Bonny) · DIMARCO (Augusto) · DUMFRIES (Darmian) · SUCIC (Diouf) · BARELLA (Zielinski, Calhanoglu) · BASTONI (Palacios) · AKANJI * (Acerbi, De Vrij) · PAVARD (Bisseck) · JOSEP (Sommer)Inter plays with a high press and rapid transitions in a 3-4-3. This lineup aims to win the ball high up the pitch to attack immediately. The tactical identity is built to be vertical and uses wide players to stretch the opposition.
JOSEP acts as the goalkeeper to organize the defensive line. AKANJI sits in the middle of the back three to hold the line and win the header. BASTONI operates as the left centre back to play out from the back and use his passing range to break the line. PAVARD plays as the right centre back to cover the space and defend zonally. The unit works together to maintain a compact block and squeeze the space between the lines.
The midfield functions as a double pivot that connects the defense to the attack. BARELLA plays as a carrier to drive forward with the ball and press aggressively to win the ball high up the pitch. SUCIC works to recycle possession, find the feet of the striker, and pick up runners in the middle third. DIMARCO acts as an attacking wing back on the left to provide width and whip it in from the flank. DUMFRIES works on the right as an attacking wing back to overlap the winger and support the attack.
The attack uses three forwards to pin the last defender. LAUTARO plays as a pressing centre forward to work in tight spaces and hold up the ball. THURAM plays on the right to cut inside and look for runs in behind. HENRIQUE stays wide on the left to pull wide and stretch the defence. These players look to combine in tight spaces to deliver early balls or cut it back to the arriving midfielders.
One major advantage for Inter is the ability to create wide overloads when the wing backs push up. This puts pressure on the opposition full backs and creates space for the front three to operate. The team also benefits from the speed of transition when they win the ball in the middle third. This allows them to hit in behind on the transition before the opponent can regroup or defend zonally.
This 3-4-3 formation relies on a high press and quick ball movement. It is ideal for facing opponents that attempt to play out from the back against intense pressure.
