Isak guards the goal as the lone goalkeeper. The defensive unit operates with a back five that maintains a low block. Gravenberch plays as the left centre back and Mac Allister sits as the right centre back. Szoboszlai holds the middle of the line to win the header and cover the other two defenders. The wing backs Salah and Wirtz act as defensive wing backs who stay deeper to prevent crosses and track back to help the centre backs. The group works to stay narrow and squeeze the space.

The midfield is a flat four designed to press in a mid-block and protect the central zones. Virgil and Guéhi act as the two central midfielders who shield the defence and pick up runners. Bradley plays on the left side to mark wide players while Kerkez handles the right side. Virgil looks to carry the ball forward and connect the lines. Guéhi works to intercept passes and win the second ball to keep the pressure on. They try to force the opposition into wide areas and cut off the passing lane into the middle.

In the attacking phase, Liverpool uses a lone striker in Alisson to lead the way. The team builds play through transitions to hit the opposition on the break. Bradley and Kerkez try to push up to provide support, while Salah and Wirtz move into higher positions to provide width. Alisson needs to hold up the ball and lay it off to teammates. The goal is to find space to knock it in behind the last defender or whip it in toward the box.
