Liverpool looks to control the pitch through high pressing and verticality in a 2-5-3 formation. This lineup seeks to squeeze the space high up the pitch to win the ball back quickly and punish the opposition through direct movements. The system relies on heavy numbers in the middle to dominate the center and create chaos for the opponent.

Trevor/isaac/cooper/jared stays between the posts to act as the last line of defense. The back line consists of a narrow pair of central defenders with Jared/albert/trevor and Edwin/jared/isaac working to hold the line. These two must be ready to step up to catch opponents offside or drop back to cover space when the team is under pressure. Because there are only two players at the back, they must be extremely disciplined in how they defend the central channel.

The midfield is the engine room of this Liverpool system, featuring a heavy presence of five players. Marcos 1/chino and Marcos 2/max act as a double pivot to shield the two defenders and secure the zone in front of them. Christian/marcos 1 or moves through the center to connect the defense to the attack, while Uziel/jonathan and Yosgard/marcos occupy the half spaces as wide attacking midfielders. This central block aims to win the second ball and push the team forward through the thirds.

In the final third, the team utilizes three attackers to stretch the defense. Eric plays as the wide left winger to provide width, while Charlie/joel operates on the right to look for chances. Alex/christian leads the line as a central striker to pin the last defender and provide a focal point for the attack. This front three works to press the opposition back line and create runs in behind to exploit any gaps left by a high defensive line.

One major advantage of this formation is the ability to achieve numerical superiority in the middle of the pitch. By using five midfielders, Liverpool can overwhelm many standard formations and recycle possession easily. The wide attacking midfielders also allow for quick transitions where they can immediately support the wingers to create overloads.

The 2-5-3 is a high risk, high reward formation built for aggressive teams that want to dominate play. It is best suited for games where the opponent lacks the speed to exploit the space behind the two central defenders.
