MacAlister uses his passing range to play through the lines and find the forwards, while Gravenberch is tasked to carry the ball forward to progress through the thirds. They must work to squeeze the space in the center and protect the back four when the full backs push high. They press in a mid-block to deny the turn and prevent the opposition from playing short from the back.

In the attacking phase, the front four aim to pin the last defender and create chaos. Salah and Gakpo stay wide to pull defenders apart, with Salah looking to cut inside onto his left foot. Wirtz and Isak play as a duo of forwards, where Wirtz works to find the feet of the striker and create chances. They press from the front to force a long ball and then look to hit in behind on the transition.

One advantage of this formation is the ability to press high in coordinated waves to win it back high up the pitch. The team also creates wide overloads through the movement of Frimpong and Kerkez. This lineup provides great speed of transition, allowing Liverpool to break quickly once the ball is intercepted.
