Starting Lineup

Elche focuses on a high pressing and vertical style of play with a 2-4-4 formation. This lineup is built to catch the opposition out of position by pushing bodies high up the pitch to win the ball back quickly. The goal is to bypass the midfield through rapid transitions and direct movement toward the goal.

Peña stays between the posts to organize the defensive line. The back line consists of a narrow pair of central defenders, Chust and Affengruber, who must play in a very high line to squeeze the space. Since there are only two defenders, they must be dominant in the air and fast to cover runners, often acting as the first line of defense against long balls. They work together to hold the line and step up to set the offside trap when the ball is played deep.

The midfield operates as a central block consisting of a double pivot and two attacking midfielders. Fort and Pedrosa act as the engine room, with Fort looking to shield the defense while Pedrosa works to win the second ball and recycle possession. Ahead of them, Redondo and Neto operate in the half spaces to connect the defensive unit to the front four. Redondo and Neto look to drive forward with the ball and create chances by playing through the lines to find the attackers.

In the attacking phase, Elche employs four players across the front to stretch the defence. Á. Rodríguez and A. Silva work as a two forwards partnership in a central presence, looking to find the feet of the striker or run in behind. Diangana and Febas act as wide players who spread wide to pull the opposition defenders apart. This front line is designed to press from the front, forcing the opponent to play long balls that Chust and Affengruber can intercept.

One major tactical advantage for Elche is the ability to press high in coordinated waves, making it difficult for opponents to build from the back. The formation also creates wide overloads when the attacking midfielders and wide forwards combine to isolate a one on one wide. This aggressive positioning allows the team to win it back high up the pitch and attack the goal immediately.
