Besiktas focuses on a high press and direct attacking intent using a 4-2-4. This lineup is built to play with high intensity, looking to win the ball high up the pitch and strike quickly before the opponent can settle. The goal is to stretch the defence by keeping many players in advanced positions to force errors.

Mert stays between the posts to act as the last line of defence. The back line operates as a flat back four with Taylan and Rıdvan providing the width. Taylan acts as a defensive wing back to cover the flank, while Rıdvan looks to push up and support the attack. Djalo and Emirhan form the central pair, with Djalo using his strength to defend aerial duels and Emirhan acting as the covering defender to pick up runners. This defensive unit must stay compact to avoid being caught out by long balls behind them.

The midfield operates as a double pivot to provide a screen for the defence. Ndidi works to shield the back four and intercept passes, using his high pressing intensity to disrupt play. Orkun links the defensive and attacking lines, acting as a carrier to move the ball from deep. Together, Ndidi and Orkun must cover a lot of ground to prevent the opposition from playing through the centre. They are responsible for recycling possession and ensuring the team does not get overrun in the middle.

Besiktas employs four attackers to pin the opposition back. Toure and Cerny act as wide wingers, with Toure looking to cut inside and Cerny to stretch the play. Rafa and Abraham play as a central partnership, where Abraham acts as a pressing centre-forward to harass the defenders. Rafa operates in the pockets of space to find the feet of the striker or arrive late into the box. This front line aims to create runs in behind and use combinations to break the line.

This formation offers several tactical advantages, such as the ability to press high in coordinated waves to force a long ball. By having four players ahead of the midfield, Besiktas can create wide overloads and isolate wide players in one on one situations. The presence of the double pivot also allows for a quick speed of transition when the ball is won back high up the pitch.

The 4-2-4 lineup is a high risk, high reward system built for aggressive attacking football. It is best suited for games where Besiktas wants to dominate the opponent through sheer numbers in the final third.
