Starting Lineup

Leo Román Riquelme · Johan Mojica · Raillo · Valjent · Mateu Jaume · Antonio Sánchez · Manu Morlanes · Asano · Pablo Torre · Sergi Darder · Vedad Muriqi

Mallorca looks to play a direct and defensively solid brand of football within a 4-5-1 formation. This lineup focuses on sitting deep to deny space while looking to transition quickly through the center and wide areas. The goal is to maintain a compact unit that is hard to break down when the opponent has the ball.

Leo Román Riquelme guards the goal as the last line of defense. The back line operates as a flat back four to maintain a narrow defensive block. Valjent and Raillo act as the central defenders, with Raillo providing strength while Valjent works to cover space. Johan Mojica plays as an attacking left back to provide width, whereas Mateu Jaume stays more disciplined on the right. The defensive unit works to squeeze the space between the lines to ensure the opposition cannot play through the middle.

The midfield acts as a five man block designed to congest the central zones. Antonio Sánchez and Manu Morlanes form a double pivot to shield the defense and win the second ball. Sergi Darder operates in the right half space to connect the defensive and attacking lines with his passing range, while Pablo Torre finds pockets of space to drive forward with the ball. Asano plays on the left of the midfield trio to press aggressively and track back when the team loses possession. This midfield unit is tasked with recycling possession and breaking the line when the chance arises.

Vedad Muriqi leads the line as a lone target man. He uses his aerial strength to hold up the ball and win headers from long balls. The attacking structure relies on Muriqi to pin the last defender, creating space for the midfielders to arrive late into the box. The wide midfielders work to support him, often looking to deliver a cross or find him with a pass to his feet. Mallorca uses the physical presence of Muriqi to transition from a low block into a direct attack.

A primary strength of this Mallorca lineup is the compactness when defending in a mid-block. The five man midfield makes it very difficult for opponents to find passing lanes through the center. Another advantage is the ability to use Muriqi to target the opposition defense directly, which allows the team to move from defense to attack with minimal passes.

This 4-5-1 formation is built to be defensively resilient and physically imposing. It is best suited for matches against possession based teams where Mallorca can sit deep and strike on the transition.
