Mokio and Satulo act as the central defenders, where Mokio provides aerial strength and Satulo covers the space behind. Itakura plays as a wide centre-back to help build from the back. Baas acts as an attacking wing back on the left to provide width, while Gaaei operates on the right to overlap and drive into the final third.

The midfield consists of a two man unit that links the back five to the front three. Gloukh operates in the right channel to carry the ball forward and link play, while Taylor works to cover ground and win the second ball in central areas. These two midfielders must work hard to squeeze the space between the lines and prevent the opponent from playing through the middle. They are tasked with recycling possession and finding the attackers quickly once the ball is recovered.

In the final third, Ajax employs three attackers to pin the opposition back line. Dolberg acts as the central striker to hold up the ball and link with his teammates. Moro plays as an inverted winger on the left to cut inside and create chances, while Berghuis operates on the right to deliver crosses and find pockets of space. This front line is built to create runs in behind and use combinations to move through the thirds.

This formation offers specific tactical advantages, such as the ability to create wide overloads through the wing backs. The presence of three attackers allows Ajax to press from the front and force a long ball from the opposition. Additionally, the back five provides compactness when defending deep, making it difficult for opponents to find gaps in the central zone.
