Blackburn plays with a high intensity and a heavy emphasis on direct attacking play using a 2-4-4 formation. This lineup is built to overwhelm the opposition with numbers in the final third and to win the ball back quickly. The goal is to use verticality to punish teams before they can get organized.

TOTH starts in goal to manage the space behind the defensive line. The back line consists of only two central defenders, MCLOUGHLIN and MILLER, who must defend as a narrow duo. Since there are no full backs, MCLOUGHLIN and MILLER often have to cover huge amounts of ground to prevent runners from getting behind them. They must be prepared to step up and intercept passes or drop back to protect the central area. This unit works as a high line to keep the distance between the defense and the midfield small.

The midfield is a flat four designed to control the center and provide width. TRONSTAD and SIDNEI occupy the central roles, where TRONSTAD acts as a carrier to drive the ball forward while SIDNEI helps to shield the two defenders. On the flanks, RIBEIRO and ALEBIOSU provide the width, staying high to stretch the opposing defense. These four players must work together to press in a mid-block and win the second ball to keep the pressure on. They connect the defense to the attack by recycling possession and playing through the lines.

Blackburn uses four attackers to pin the opposition back. CANTWELL and OHASHI act as a strike partnership in the center, with CANTWELL working to find the feet of the striker while OHASHI looks to make runs in behind. KARGBO and MORISHITA operate as wide attackers who look to cut inside and create goalscoring chances. This front four focuses on aggressive pressing from the front to force a long ball. The team relies on quick combinations and wingers getting to the byline to deliver crosses into the box.

A major strength of this Blackburn lineup is the sheer number of players involved in the attacking phase. By using a 2-4-4, the team creates wide overloads and can quickly flood the penalty area. The high pressing in coordinated waves makes it difficult for opponents to build play from their own half. This allows the team to hit in behind on the transition and exploit gaps in a retreating defense.

This formation is built for aggressive, high-scoring games where the team wants to dictate the tempo through pressure. It is best suited for matches against teams that struggle to play out from the back or lack the pace to exploit the space behind the two center backs.
