Blackburn focuses on high intensity and heavy verticality through a 2-4-4 formation. This lineup is built to push the opposition back and overwhelm them with numbers in the attacking third. The team relies on constant pressure and quick transitions to create chances.

Toth stays between the posts to guard the goal. The defensive unit is very thin with only two central defenders, Mclaughlin and Miller, who must stay alert to cover the entire width of the pitch. They often have to step up to squeeze the space and defend against long balls. Because they operate with a back two, they frequently have to track runners in behind while the midfield tries to protect the central area.

The midfield consists of a central pair and two wide players to control the center and the flanks. Tronstad and Sidnei act as the central engine, working to win the second ball and drive forward with the ball into the half spaces. Tronstad looks to connect the defensive line to the attack, while Sidnei works to protect the space in front of Mclaughlin and Miller. Ribeiro and Alebiosu occupy the wide areas to provide width and help the team recycle possession.

Blackburn uses four attackers to pin the opposition back. Cantwell and Ohashi play as a central partnership, with one often acting as a target man to hold up the ball while the other looks for runs in behind. Kargbo and Morishita operate as wide forwards, frequently cutting inside to create overloads in the box. This front line aims to press from the front and force the opposition to play long, allowing the central defenders to win the headers and start a new attack.

One major advantage of this formation is the ability to press high in coordinated waves to win the ball back high up the pitch. The sheer number of players in the final third allows Blackburn to create wide overloads and isolate defenders in one on one situations. This setup makes it very difficult for the opponent to play out from the back without facing immediate pressure.

This 2-4-4 formation is designed for a high risk, high reward attacking game. It is best suited for matches where Blackburn needs to chase a result against a team that sits deep.
