Coventry aims to control the game through heavy central presence and high energy, utilizing a 2-5-3 formation. This lineup is built to dominate the middle of the pitch and squeeze the space in the opponent half. By crowding the central areas, the team looks to win the ball back high up the pitch and use their numbers to drive the play forward.

The defensive unit relies on a very high line with only two central defenders to cover the width of the pitch. Rushworth stays between the posts to manage the space behind the defense. Woolfenden and Thomas must act as ball playing defenders who step up to intercept passes and engage attackers early. Because there are no full backs in a traditional sense, these two must be ready to cover wide areas if the midfield is bypassed, often forcing the opposition to play long balls.

In the center of the park, Coventry employs a five man midfield that provides massive density. Grimes acts as the single pivot to shield the two defenders and recycle possession. Beside him, Van Ewijk and Dasilva operate as two central midfielders who drive forward with the ball to link play. The wide areas of the midfield are occupied by Torp and Rudoni, who act as attacking midfielders in the half spaces. These players press aggressively to win the ball high and can push into the final third to support the attack.

The attacking line consists of three players designed to stretch the defence and pin the last defender. Wright leads the line as a pressing centre forward, working to harass the opposition centre backs. On the flanks, Sakamoto and Mason-Clark act as inverted wingers who cut inside to create goal scoring chances. This creates a central overload that allows the attacking midfielders to arrive late into the box. The goal is to use quick combinations to split the defence with a through ball or a pass into the feet of the striker.

One major advantage for Coventry is the numerical superiority in midfield which makes it very hard for opponents to play through the middle. The team can also create wide overloads by having Torp or Rudoni push wide to support the wingers. This formation allows for a high press in coordinated waves, making it difficult for the opposition to build play from the back.

This 2-5-3 lineup is a high risk high reward system designed to dominate possession and territory. It is best suited for games where Coventry can squeeze the opponent into their own half and win the ball back quickly.
