Como Football Formation
Starting Lineup
Morata · Valle · Van der Brempt · Posch · D. Carlos · Paz · Baturina · Perrone · Caqueret · Kühn · ButezComo prioritizes a high press and aggressive verticality in this 2-5-3 formation. The lineup aims to win the ball back high up the pitch and move the play forward with speed. This formation is built to dominate the center of the pitch and overwhelm the opponent through a dense midfield.
Butez operates between the posts, acting as the first line of progression. The defensive unit relies on a narrow two man back line consisting of Posch and D. Carlos. Posch and D. Carlos must hold the line and stay compact to prevent runners from getting behind. These two central defenders need to be ready to step up to catch opponents offside or drop into a low block if the high press is bypassed. Because there are only two defenders, they must communicate constantly to cover the space behind the midfield.
The midfield is the engine room of Como, utilizing a five man line to control the game. Valle and Van der Brempt form a double pivot to shield the two defenders and win the second ball. Perrone and Caqueret occupy the half spaces to drive forward with the ball and connect the defensive and attacking lines. Paz plays as an attacking ten behind the striker, looking to play through the lines and find the forwards. This heavy midfield presence allows the team to squeeze the space in the middle and press in a mid-block when needed.
In the final third, the team employs three attackers to stretch the defence. Morata acts as the central striker, working to hold up the ball and find the feet of his teammates. Baturina and Kühn act as wide wingers who stay high to provide width. Baturina often looks to cut inside to create overloads, while Kühn works to get to the byline and deliver early crosses. The forwards press the opposition back line to force a long ball, which the central defenders can then contest.
One major advantage for Como is the numerical superiority in midfield, which makes it very difficult for opponents to play through the middle. The ability to press high in coordinated waves from the front three down to the midfield creates constant pressure. This lineup also allows for quick transitions, as the players in the midfield are already in positions to carry the ball forward immediately after a turnover.
This 2-5-3 formation is a high risk, high reward setup designed for total dominance. It is best suited for games where Como can isolate wide players in one on one situations and control the tempo through central congestion.
