Como Football Formation
Starting Lineup
Morata · Valle · Dossena · Posch · D. Carlos · Paz · Baturina · Perrone · Caqueret · Kühn · ButezComo plays with a heavy emphasis on high pressing and verticality through a 2-5-3 formation. This lineup is built to win the ball back high up the pitch and move quickly toward the opponent goal. By using a very aggressive frontline, Como aims to squeeze the space in the opposition half and create immediate scoring chances.
Butez starts in goal to oversee the defensive unit. The back line consists of a narrow pair of central defenders, D. Carlos and Dossena, who must play with a high line to keep the team compact. These two act as the primary shield, with Dossena focusing on his aerial strength to win the second ball. Because there are only two players in the deepest line, they must be ready to cover large amounts of space if the opposition hits in behind. The defensive unit relies on the midfield to drop back and form a solid block when the high press is bypassed.
The midfield is a five man unit designed to control the center of the pitch. Posch and Valle act as a double pivot to shield the defence and provide stability. Perrone and Caqueret operate in the half spaces to connect the defensive and attacking lines. Caqueret uses his passing range to recycle possession and switch play to the flanks. Paz sits as an attacking ten behind the striker, acting as the primary playmaker to find the feet of the forwards. This midfield group works to press in a mid-block or trigger a press as soon as the ball enters their zone.
In the attacking third, Como uses three attackers to pin the last defender. Morata operates as a lone striker, using his hold up the ball ability to bring others into play. Baturina and Kühn act as wide wingers who look to cut inside and create overloads in central areas. These forwards press from the front to force a long ball from the opposition. The movement is designed to create runs in behind and allow Paz to play through the lines. By keeping the front three high, the team can transition from defense to attack with extreme speed.
One major tactical advantage is the ability to press high in coordinated waves, using the frontline and midfield to suffocate the opponent. This formation also creates numerical superiority in the central areas through the combination of the double pivot and the attacking ten. The narrowness of the two central defenders allows the wide midfielders to spread wide and stretch the defence.
This 2-5-3 formation is a high risk, high reward system that relies on dominance in the middle third. It is best suited for games where Como can use their intensity to overwhelm an opponent that struggles to play out from the back.
