Starting Lineup

Prioritizing high pressing and verticality, Como uses a 2-5-3 formation to control the pitch. This lineup aims to pin the opposition deep in their own half through constant pressure and quick transitions. By pushing many players forward, the team looks to win it back high up the pitch and attack with numbers.

Butez operates as the goalkeeper within a system that relies on a very high line. The defensive unit consists of only two central defenders, D. Carlos and Posch, who must be ready to cover large amounts of grass. D. Carlos and Posch act as the main line of defense, needing to win headers and intercept any long balls sent behind them. Because there are no full backs, these two must defend man to man or defend zonally to stop runners in the channels.

The midfield is heavily populated to dominate the center of the park. Caqueret and Valle form a double pivot to shield the back line and recycle possession. In front of them, Perrone and Da Cunha occupy the half spaces to drive forward with the ball and connect the defensive and attacking lines. Paz plays as an attacking ten behind the striker, tasked to find the feet of the striker and play through the lines. This midfield block works to squeeze the space and ensure the team maintains control of the tempo.

In the attacking phase, Como employs three attackers to stretch the defence. Morata acts as a lone striker who can hold up the ball and link up play with the midfielders. Baturina and Kühn operate as wide wingers who want to cut inside to create goal scoring chances. These three forwards press from the front to force a long ball from the opposition. The movements are designed to create runs in behind and allow the wingers to isolate defenders in one on one situations.

This formation provides several tactical advantages for Como. The midfield setup creates numerical superiority in the center, making it difficult for opponents to play through the middle. Having five players in the middle line allows the team to press in pairs and hunt the ball effectively. Furthermore, the presence of Paz and the wide attackers ensures the team can quickly transition from a mid block to a direct attack.
