To control the center of the pitch, Como operates with a 4-5-1 formation. This lineup is built to maintain a compact block to deny space between the lines. The team looks to win the second ball and use a central density to dominate possession or sit deep to catch opponents on the break.

Butez guards the goal for Como. The defensive unit functions as a flat back four where Rothe acts as the left back and Klostermann operates as the right back. In the center, Brassier and Dossena form a partnership. Brassier works to cover space while Dossena is used to win the header during set pieces and aerial duels. The full backs focus on holding the line to ensure the defensive unit stays compact.

The midfield consists of five players to congest the center. Pisilli and Caqueret act as a double pivot to shield the defense and protect the center backs. Moving forward, Paz, Tella, and Yilmaz occupy the central and half-space areas. Caqueret and Pisilli look to recycle possession and provide a base for the team to play out from the back. Paz and Tella drive forward with the ball to link the midfield to the attack, while Yilmaz works to press aggressively in a mid-block to win it back high up the pitch.

Abline operates as a lone striker at the front of the formation. He must hold up the ball to allow the midfielders to join the attack. Because the midfield is so central, the team relies on the full backs, Rothe and Klostermann, to provide width and overlap the winger positions when the team has the ball. Abline works to pin the last defender, creating space for Tella or Paz to arrive late into the box. The attack is built through short passes and combinations in tight spaces to find the feet of the striker.

One major strength is the numerical superiority in midfield. By playing five players in the middle, the team can easily compress the midfield and deny the turn to opposition playmakers. Another advantage is the ability to maintain a compact block when defending, making it difficult for opponents to play through the lines. This formation allows the team to transition quickly once the ball is won in the middle.
