The midfield consists of a double pivot designed to shield the defense and win the second ball. Lavia works to anchor the middle and protects the back four while Onana drives forward with the ball to connect the lines. These two players must press in a mid-block to stop the opposition from playing through the lines. They act as the engine room to recycle possession and provide a platform for the attackers to move forward.

In the attacking third, Belgium uses four players to stretch the defense. Doku operates as a wide winger on the left to isolate opponents in one on one situations using his explosive dribbling style. On the right, De Ketelaere looks to cut inside and create chances. The center of the attack features Tielemans and Openda playing as a partnership. Openda plays as a pressing centre-forward to force long balls, while Tielemans looks to find the feet of the striker and link up play.

This formation offers significant attacking numbers to create overloads in the final third. Belgium can use the pace of Doku to break quickly on the transition. The presence of four attackers makes it difficult for opposition defenders to hold the line without being split by a through ball.
