New York City Soccer Formation
Starting Lineup
Cata · Juliet · Aebry · Yoshi · Manya · Zamita · Cristy · yazz · xio · lea · myraNew York City plays with a high press and a heavy focus on controlling the ball through a 4-3-3. This formation is built to dominate territory and keep the opposition pinned in their own half. By utilizing a wide attacking front, the team aims to create many passing lanes and stretch the defence.
Cata operates between the posts as the goalkeeper to start the build up. The defensive unit holds a flat back four to maintain a compact line. Yoshi acts as the right back to provide width while Aebry and yazz form the central pairing to defend the box. Aebry acts as a ball playing defender to help play out from the back, while yazz focuses on winning the second ball and covering the space behind the high line. Juliet plays as the left back to support the wing and help shift the play across the pitch.
The midfield functions as a three man midfield with a carrier to move the play through the thirds. Zamita sits in the middle to shield the defence and recycle possession. Manya and Cristy operate as the two more advanced players in the middle. Manya looks to press aggressively to win the ball high up the pitch, while Cristy works to connect the defensive and attacking lines. This trio works to compress the midfield and prevent opponents from playing through the center.
In the attacking third, the team uses three attackers across the front to pin the last defender. Lea acts as the lone striker and works to hold up the ball for those around her. xio plays on the left as an inverted winger who looks to cut inside and find the feet of the striker. myra operates on the right wing to spread wide and whip it in when the space opens up. This front line is designed to create runs in behind and use quick combinations to break the line.
New York City possesses several tactical advantages with this lineup. They can create wide overloads when Juliet and Yoshi push high to support the wingers. The team also benefits from the ability to press high in coordinated waves to force a long ball from the opponent. This creates plenty of chances to win the ball back in dangerous areas.
This 4-3-3 formation is ideal for teams that want to dominate possession and squeeze the space in the opponent half. It is best suited for matches against teams that sit deep and defend in a low block.
