Starting Lineup

Inter prioritizes a heavy high press and rapid transitions through a 5-2-3 formation. This lineup is built to win the ball high up the pitch and use immediate verticality to catch the opposition out of position. By utilizing a deep defensive base and aggressive wide players, Inter aims to control the game by forcing turnovers in the final third.

Bass operates between the posts to organize the defensive unit. The back line functions as a back five, with Ben acting as the central anchor to clear the lines and hold the center. Noah and Sam serve as the wide centre-backs, where Noah covers the left channel and Sam covers the right. To provide width, Thom plays as an attacking wing back on the left, while Seb acts as an attacking wing back on the right to push high up the pitch. This allows the defenders to shift as a unit to deny the turn and secure the middle.

The midfield relies on a double pivot to manage the center of the pitch. Emo and Jorge operate as the two central midfielders, tasked with controlling the tempo and recycling possession. Jorge works to drive forward with the ball to bridge the gap between the defense and the attack, while Emo focuses on pressing aggressively to win the ball high. Together, they aim to compress the midfield and ensure the team remains compact when the opposition tries to move through the lines.

In the attacking third, the team uses three attackers to stretch the defence. Arthur acts as a pressing centre-forward to lead the front line, often looking to win the second ball. Stevie plays as an inverted winger on the left to cut inside and create central threats, while Jose occupies the right wing to spread the play wide. These attackers work to pin the last defender and create space for the wing backs to overlap. The goal is to use quick combinations to hit in behind on the transition.

This formation offers significant tactical advantages, particularly through the ability to press high in coordinated waves. The presence of Thom and Seb allows for wide overloads from overlapping full backs, which can overwhelm the opposition flanks.
