Starting Lineup

LAUTARO · HENRIQUE · THURAM · AUGUSTO · DIOUF · SUCIC · DUMFRIES · BASTONI · AKANJI · BISSECK · JOSEP

Inter utilizes a 3-4-3 formation to drive a high press and verticality. The lineup is built to win the ball high up the pitch and move quickly toward the goal. This formation seeks to dominate through aggressive positioning and quick transitions to catch the opposition out of position.

JOSEP stands between the posts to command the area. The defensive unit functions as a back three. AKANJI sits in the center as a ball playing defender who is dominant in the air. BISSECK acts as the right center back to cover space, while BASTONI plays as the left center back. BASTONI uses his passing range to start attacks from deep. The back line often holds a high line to squeeze the space and set the offside trap.

The midfield relies on a double pivot of SUCIC and DIOUF. These two players work to control the center and connect the defensive and attacking lines. SUCIC works to carry the ball forward, while DIOUF helps to shield the defense and intercept play. Wide of them, DUMFRIES and AUGUSTO operate as attacking wing backs. DUMFRIES pushes up to provide width and deliver crosses, while AUGUSTO tracks back to maintain the defensive block. This lineup allows Inter to transition from a mid-block into a wide attacking shape.

In the final third, Inter employs three attackers. LAUTARO leads the line as a pressing centre-forward who knows how to find the feet of his teammates. THURAM plays on the right as an inverted winger who cuts inside to create chaos. HENRIQUE stays wide on the left to stretch the defence. The forwards work to pin the last defender and create runs in behind. They use link up play between the lines to break the lines of the opposition.

The main advantages of this 3-4-3 are the wide overloads provided by DUMFRIES and AUGUSTO. By pushing the wing backs high, the team creates situations to isolate wide players in one on one battles. Another strength is the ability to press high in coordinated waves, using the front three and the midfield to trigger a press. This causes the opposition to struggle when they try to play out from the back.

This formation provides a heavy presence in both central and wide areas. Inter is best suited for matches against teams that struggle to defend deep or against opponents that allow space behind their midfield.
