Cameroon focuses on a hard to beat defensive block and quick transitions using a 4-5-1. This formation is built to sit deep and absorb pressure before hitting the opposition on the break. The team looks to frustrate opponents by squeezing the space between the lines and then using the speed of their forwards to break quickly.

A.Onana guards the goal and acts as the last line of defense. The back four operates as a flat defensive line where Nouhou Tolo and J.Tchatchoua provide width. C.Wooh and M.Ngadeu form the central pair, with M.Ngadeu often tasked to defend the air and C.Wooh covering space behind him. This unit tends to drop into a low block when the opposition holds the ball in the final third.

The midfield functions as a five man unit that can shift to protect the center. M.Hongla and F.Anguissa act as a double pivot to shield the defense and win the second ball. C.Baleba operates in the center to link the defensive and attacking lines, while B.Mbeumo and G.N’Koudou occupy the half spaces to provide energy. This group works to deny the turn to the opposition and can press in a mid-block to force a long ball.

Cameroon utilizes a lone striker in V.Aboubakar (C) to lead the line. As the captain, V.Aboubakar (C) uses his strength to hold up the ball and bring others into play. The team builds attacks through the wide players, where B.Mbeumo and G.N’Koudou look to cut inside or pull wide to create space. The goal is to find the feet of the striker or hit in behind on the transition to exploit gaps left by the opposition.

One major advantage for Cameroon is the ability to maintain compactness when defending in a deep block. The midfield can quickly transition from a defensive stance to an attacking one to catch opponents out of position. This setup also allows the team to win the second ball frequently in the middle of the pitch.

The 4-5-1 lineup provides a very solid defensive base that is difficult to break down through the middle. It is best suited for matches against teams that dominate possession where Cameroon can exploit the space behind the defense.
