Starting Lineup

Seidl · Amane · Antiste · Dahl · Gulliksen · Wurmbrand · J. Auer · Bolla · Raux Yao · Cvetkovic · Hedl

SK Rapid looks to control the pitch through high pressing and heavy central numbers in a 2-5-3 formation. This lineup is built to dominate the middle of the park and squeeze the opposition into their own half. The intention is to use high numbers to win the ball back quickly and use the front three to punish tired defences.

Hedl starts in goal to oversee the defensive line. The defensive unit consists of a narrow back two featuring Raux Yao and Cvetkovic. These central defenders must be ready to step up to catch opponents offside and manage the space behind them. Since there are only two central defenders, they need to be dominant in the air and ready to cover the wide areas when the midfield shifts. The unit works to stay compact to prevent through balls between them.

The midfield is the heart of the SK Rapid lineup, using a five man line to overwhelm the opponent. J. Auer acts as a deep lying playmaker to help play short from the back and recycle possession. Bolla sits next to him to shield the defence and win the second ball. Seidl and Amane operate in the half spaces to connect the defensive and attacking lines, with Amane driving forward with the ball to create threats. Gulliksen plays as an attacking ten behind the striker, looking to find the feet of the striker or make runs into the box to link the play.

In the final third, the team employs three attackers to stretch the defence. Antiste acts as the lone striker, tasked to hold up the ball and pin the last defender. Dahl plays as an inverted winger on the left to cut inside and create space, while Wurmbrand stays wide on the right to provide width and whip it in. This front line presses from the front to force a long ball from the opposition. The movement is designed to create runs in behind and isolate defenders in one on one situations through rapid transitions.

This formation offers significant numerical superiority in midfield, making it very difficult for opponents to pass through the centre. SK Rapid can also use the high press in coordinated waves to win the ball back high up the pitch. The ability to overwhelm the middle allows the team to control the tempo and squeeze the space available to the opposition.

This 2-5-3 formation is a high risk, high reward system focused on central dominance and aggressive pressing. It is best suited for games where SK Rapid needs to dominate possession and overwhelm a defensively minded opponent.
